The wonderful Torre delle Cannelle was built during the 15th century as a coastal defensive structure and subsequently improved by the Spanish in the 16th century during the reign of Philip II to protect the State of Presidios from incursions by Ottoman Turkish pirates. In the 1960s, the Torre, now in ruins, under the guidance of the Belle Arti di Siena was restored to its former glory and converted into a unique holiday home.
