Monte Argentario and the Tuscan archipelago
There are seven beautiful islands that make up the Tuscan archipelago off the coast of Monte Argentario. They are Elba, Giglio, Capraia, Montecristo, Pianosa, Giannutri and Gorgona. It is a relatively short sail to any of these islands from Monte Argentario.
Cala Galera Marina of Porto Ercole
Luxurious sailing and motorboats fill Porto Ercole’s Cala Galera marina. It has a pretty shop-lined parade. Already used by the Romans for their voyages to Sardinia, this port can harbour up to 700 boats. It is an important and safe stopover point for private cruises to Sardinia, Corsica and the islands of the Tuscan archipelago.
Porto Ercole celebrates with grand festivities and great local participation the feast of the patron saint on June 2. This includes an evening procession with illuminated boats.
The Argentario Sailing Week
The Argentario Sailing Week first started in 1999. The Regatta, which traditionally takes place in the second half of June, hosts a selection of yachts belonging to Classic, Vintage, Spirit of Tradition, and Metric classes. It sees the participation of a variety of competitors from all over the world.
The yachts are moored along the spectacular ancient harbour of Porto S. Stefano, called “La Pilarella”. Here, crews enjoy the historical charm of the village and its restaurants, bars, and boutiques straight on the docks. Four challenging days of racing occur in some of the best sailing conditions in the Mediterranean.
