Destination

The enchanting medieval hilltop town of Capalbio, with its crenulated walls, leafy gardens and Renaissance frescoes, is worth visiting all year round. However, it is in Summer that Capalbio comes into its own.
Located about 45 kilometres southeast of Grosseto, Capalbio is the most southern town of Tuscany and borders with Lazio region. In the past, Capalbio was artistically important and called “Little Athens”. The town is perfectly preserved and enclosed by walls that you can climb for spectacular views.
Things to do: We highly recommend visiting the wonderful nearby sculpture garden, Giardino dei Tarocchi. Gateway to the nearby Argentario peninsula is Orbetello, a small walled town built into the lagoons between the mainland and promontory. The pedestrian town is charming and has some of the best sunset views.
Capalbio offers pastoral calm and understated sophistication; a visit to Monte Argentario introduces a more dramatic coastal counterpoint. Rising from the Tyrrhenian Sea in a sweep of wooded hills and sculpted cliffs, Argentario feels wilder and more maritime, yet retains the same air of discretion that defines southern Tuscany.
Capalbio is defined by discretion, natural beauty and a certain cultivated simplicity. An afternoon at Ultima Spiaggia complements this atmosphere perfectly, offering a refined yet relaxed encounter with the Tuscan coast. Long regarded as one of the most elegant beach clubs in southern Tuscany, it provides a setting in which comfort and understatement prevail over ostentation.
Staying in Capalbio offers privacy, refinement and proximity to one of Tuscany’s most unspoilt landscapes. A visit to Parco della Maremma provides a natural counterpoint to the elegance of your villa — an immersion into a wilder, more elemental Tuscany that remains largely untouched by mass tourism.
A visit to Cosa offers an encounter with Tuscany at its most elemental and contemplative. Perched above the sea on the promontory of Ansedonia, the remains of this ancient Roman colony overlook the Tyrrhenian coastline with quiet authority.
